An Introduction

Hi! I'm Jackson, an undergrad studying Physics and Mechatronics at Monash University in Melbourne.

I spend a lot of my time thinking about the nature of reality, experience, meaning, and — most importantly — the limitations of thinking itself. I love learning and have found that inspecting any subject with a curious eye reveals vast depths and inherent beauty. Sadly, my time is finite, and I am all too often forced to resign myself to appreciation rather than understanding.

I enjoy tinkering and making things. From neural networks to firebending gauntlets, I revel in our increasing ability to actualise cool and useful ideas.

Much of my focus is now centred on Artificial Intelligence and its related fields. It has become apparent that we are nearing the creation of generally intelligent machines. And with increasingly intelligent systems, we find solutions to increasingly difficult problems. The promises are infinitely beguiling. Unfortunately, utopic ideals are rarely kind to starry eyes, and in this case, the creation of entities more intelligent than ourselves poses — acknowledgedexistential risks. I’m not exactly sure where I can fit into this picture, but I hope to make an impact.
